Small Adult
Do you think a small infant kitten will be a small adult?
I’m curious because I’m fostering a kitten that was the runt of the little, he’s days behind his siblings in growth and just finally starting to grow [he was sick for a few days]. I’m wondering if his current size might relate to his adult size. Mother’s pretty small in size herself and I’ve no idea about his father since he’s a stray. We consider him preemie sized.
hard to tell because it depends on why it is a small one.
We have a litter of kittens that are 9 weeks old and the smallest one, who was dramatically smaller than the other 2 was the first to open her eyes, climb out of the delivery box, try cat food, climb up the curtain, and be box trained. Her mother is small but I know for a fact that the mother was raised in a home of poor people who had trouble buying cat food much less decent cat food so that one was conceived and carried to term by a mother who was also nutritionally deficient. So, I don’t know if my runt is a runt because it runs in her family or if there was something wrong with her because both her mama and her get good cat food and lots of it. She is still smaller than her litter mates, but not by much any more.
You know, many preemie humans catch up just fine and you would never know they started life as a preemie. I am sure animals are the same.
